Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you use the Water Fed Pole system?
The primary reason for using a water fed pole system is safety. Window cleaning has long been one of the most dangerous professions in the UK with a number of deaths and serious injuries occuring each year. The Water fed Pole system allows us to work from the ground reducing the risk of serious injury.
Does a Water Fed Pole system clean windows as well as traditional methods?
The simple answer is yes! Water is a fantasic cleaning agent and combined with the gentle cleaning action of the soft brushes your windows will be cleaned to a sparkling finish.
What type of equipment do you use?
Water fed pole window cleaning system used by Leeming Window Cleaning services consists of a 4 Stage water filtration system. This uses a reverse osmosis system and mixed bed demineralising resin to produce 100% pure, laboratory grade water. We use a carbon fibre extendable pole to deliver 100% pure water to all the windows in your home or workplace. Water is pumped the full length of the pole and sprayed onto the windows and dirt is removed using the soft brush. The windows are then rinsed to remove all dirt.
Do you put additives in the water you use?
Traditional window cleaning needs a lubricant to help the blade (or squeegee) to glide across the glass rather than drag (causing marks). This is often a soap based product (some window cleaners use washing up liquid) which can leave a sticky soap residue, which attracts fresh dirt back to the window. The water used in the water-fed pole system is pure water. This means that the water we use is pure, de-ionised and de-mineralised water. Ordinary tap water is full of dissolved chemicals and minerals, and bottled water (or "mineral" water) often has even more. Rather than being bad for us the minerals in water are essential for our health, but they're not very good for windows because when the water dries they end up leaving streaks and white deposits behind.
So why use just water to clean my windows?
When you wash glass with ordinary tap water and leave it to dry naturally you are often left with white streaky lines. The streaky marks are caused by impurities in the water, because Water Fed Pole systems use completely pure water there is nothing to leave streaks so your windows are left completely clean. With continued use this system actually sterilizes the whole window and frame removing all chemicals and detergents used previously. It can take a 1-2 washes with the water-fed pole system and de-ionised water to completely dissolve and remove that coating of chemicals, but by then your windows really will be clean. The nature of water in this demineralised state is to strive to return to its natural impure state by actively absorbing all dirt, chemicals and minerals it comes across
When the window cleaner leaves my windows are still wet, won't that leave marks?

Will the water fed pole leave any water marks/drips on our windows?
If you have used a traditional window cleaner in the past this may cause minor spotting and streaking for the first few washes, especially if your windows/frames have not been cleaned for a long time. Although we will do our best to rinse away as much as possible of the soap residue left from previous traditional cleaning methods, please allow for some slight spotting for the first clean. Soap tends to lodge around the edge of the frames, and it may take a few cleans to completely rinse it away. So you can appreciate that the first time it's used the results might not be perfect - but they soon will be. The good news is that by using this method your windows are likely to stay cleaner for longer as there's nothing left for the dirt to stick to so easily.
Will your water fed pole clean my uPVC frames?
Yes it will, and we always clean you frames every visit. Leeming window cleaning pride themselves on their uPVC renovation. We will discuss this with you on the first visit and you can decide on the service you require from there. We are also happy to complete a “one off” renovation service should you prefer this.
Can you wash windows that have wooden window frames?
Yes, as long as your window frames are in prime condition. If the paint work is old and flaking, it can be a problem. We will discuss this with you on the first visit and you can decide from there which service you require.
We have leaded windows. Can you wash our windows?
Yes, no problem at all (provided that the lead on the windows is not damaged)
How often should our windows be cleaned?
We leave the choice up to the customer. We would recommend once a month due to the notorious British weather. A cleaning frequency of more than 8 weeks will be classed as a first clean and therefore the charge may be more than if it were more frequently.
Do you offer a one-off window cleaning service?
Yes we do. We are also happy to complete a “one off” uPVC renovation service.
Do you offer a traditional window cleaning service?
Yes we can and do still use traditional window cleaning methods. Sometimes traditional methods are the best solution because it's faster, quicker, or cheaper in certain circumstances, and sometimes it's the only solution such as when cleaning the inside face. It is also fair to say that some people just don't like it. There may be no rational reason for this, but some people prefer to see their windows being cleaned and dried by a squeegee. Reading these frequently asked questions will allow you to make a more informed choice to choose the most efficient system for your circumstances.
Are you insured?
Yes we are fully insured, up to £2 million public liability.
Do you offer any guarantee?
If you are not 100% happy with the final finish, please contact us as soon as possible. We want to provide you with a quality service and are happy to come back and rectify the problem free of charge. We cannot provide this service if you do not tell us or wait until you see us next time.
